Emerging as one of the most the most cost-friendly Smartphones in the market today is the HTC Snap. Valued at a reasonable price of around £250, it is much cheaper than most Smartphones in the market today which fall between the 400 to 500-pound mark. Although it may not possess the cutting edge features its more expensive counterparts may have, the HTC Snap has all the basic features one would need in a Smartphone. Let’s take a look at some of the positives and negatives of this economical Smartphone.
The Upside
A notable fact about the HTC Snap is that it runs a very dependable Widows Mobile OS (v6.1). It also has an integrated GPS function as well as Wi-Fi capability. The battery life is solid as it will allow up to almost 500 hours of stand-by time and more than 8 hours of talk time.
However, what sets this one apart is its fully-functional QWERTY keyboard. The keys are dome-shaped and are bigger than usual which makes it easy to type Emails and text messages. The HTC Snap is perfect for the employee who needs to keep in touch while on-the-go.
The Downside
The biggest criticism of the HTC Snap is its lacklustre display screen. Most of the newer models, such as the HTC Touch Pro2 and the HTC Touch Diamond2 boast resolutions of 480 x 800 pixels. This is a far cry from the HTC Snap’s 2.4-inch display screen that only supports 320 x 240 pixels. This is by no means cutting edge and you shouldn’t expect to see graphics of the highest quality. But then again the HTC Touch Pro2 and the HTC Touch Diamond2 both have touch screen displays while the HTC Snap has a QWERTY keyboard. Perhaps the disparity is justified as the Snap is obviously targeting a different market segment.

Back in April, HTC announced their intention to release their newest Smartphone in the form of the HTC Snap. The Snap comes with a functional QWERTY keyboard—something we haven’t seen in HTC models since the days of the T-Mobile Dash. And based on this design, it seems that HTC has given high priority to mobile messaging on this one.
Optimized for Email
Everyone receives a reasonable amount of SPAM in their Emails on a daily basis. In fact, it is likely that the most important messages we actually need come from just four or five people. This is why HTC has included a new feature called Inner Circle in the HTC Snap. This program allows you to prioritize your Emails such that you’ll only be getting the most important ones. With a press of a button, Inner Circle will bring you directly to a special inbox that contains Emails from a pre-selected group of people. Time to say goodbye to junk mail.
Moreover, the HTC Snap will also automatically synchronize your Outlook contacts, tasks, and calendar via the Exchange Server. To ensure real-time delivery of Emails, this Smartphone also has Microsoft’s Direct Push Technology. The HTC Snap also has support for IMAP and POP3 Email accounts. The sizable domed keys of the QWERTY keyboard allows for quicker and easier typing.
Beyond Messaging
Staying in line with the HTC Touch Series, the HTC Snap will also run Windows Mobile (v6.1 on this one). This Smartphone will work with Bluetooth 2.0 and has a 256MB ROM and a 192MB RAM. It comes with a 2-Megapixel camera and a 2.4-inch display screen with a 320 x 240 resolution displaying 65K colours. Other notable features include Wi-Fi capability and GPS support. The HTC Snap is set for release this May and will have a lunch price of around £250.

Connect. Simplify. And look good in the process. This is what HTC pledges to deliver with its new mobile phone model, the HTC Snap. Let’s see, if the unit indeed lives up to the tagline.
The HTC Snap is very aptly named as it truly makes receiving priority emails a breeze. A handy little feature called the Inner Circle allows users to specify a pre-selected group of people from whom they want to receive email alerts. Just press the Inner Circle button and email messages that you deem most important will appear at the top of your inbox. Very appropriate for a product that harps on meaningful connections.
Simplicity and organization are two other highlights of the phone as its features undoubtedly make task accomplishments go about more smoothly. The HTC Snap operates on Windows Mobile 6.1, a platform that most mobile phone users are already familiar with. Apart from this, the phone also utilizes Microsoft’s Direct Push technology so that users can easily integrate calendar functions, contact management and so on. Its QWERTY keyboard sports large, rounded keys – which are great for text messaging as typing needn’t be a torturous experience for our fingers.
Other features worth mentioning are the Bluetooth 2.0, GPS, microSD card slot, integrated WiFi and 2 megapixel camera/video recorder.
HTC backed this phone up with a 528 MHz, MSM 7225 Qualcomm processor, a 256MB memory and 192MB RAM. Design-wise, it’s quite similar to the Blackberry Curve although that doesn’t take away from the appeal of the phone. At 116.5 x 61.5 x 12 millimeters, the unit has a sleek, sophisticated look to it and the 24-inch LCD isn’t bad either. It also features a trackball, which, if you ask me, makes navigation easier compared to say, the Nokia E71 scroll key.
This mobile phone model was introduced sometime between March and April of this year and is currently available for £290 to £299.

The HTC Touch was so successful that its manufacturers decided to design a whole line of handsets inspired by this remarkable model. In the next few months we should expect to see the release of various upgraded versions of the original model such as the HTC Touch Diamond2, HTC Touch HD, and the HTC Touch Pro2, to name a few. However, while most of the limelight may be on the Touch series, HTC has also developed a Smartphone that may not be as stylish, but definitely packs a whole lot of functions. Meet the HTC Snap. Here is a detailed list of its features for the more technical readers.
The Exterior
The most noticeable feature of the HTC Snap is unlike the touch screen-enabled HTC Touch, this Smartphone is equipped with a QWERTY keyboard. The keys are larger than usual and are dome-shaped which makes it ideal for typing texts and Emails. The Snap weighs 120 grams and its measurements are 61.5 x 116.5 x 12 mm. Its 2.4-inch color transflective TFT screen displays a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels. Its 2-Megapixel camera though is not too impressive.
On the Inside
The HTC Snap’s operating system is Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 6.1. It will be run by the Qualcomm MSM7225, its 528MHz processor. The Snap has a ROM capacity of 256MB and a RAM capacity of 192MB.
It supports both 2G (GSM 900/1800/1900/850) and 3G (HSDPA 900/2100) networks. As for networking capabilities it allows for a maximum HSDPA speed of 7.2 Mbps and also supports the latest classes of GPRS and EDGE. You can also access the internet via Wi-Fi on the HTC Snap through its 802.11b/g WLA capabilities.
The HTC Snap is set to hit stores this May and comes with a very reasonable price tag of approximately £250.

Going somewhat against the trend, HTC has released a Smartphone of the QWERTY variety. Unlike the HTC Touch series, which has literally put this manufacturer on the Smartphone map, the HTC Snap does not have the usual touch screen feature. Although the HTC Snap may be packed with a load of attractive features, HTC makes sure not to overwhelm customers with additions that are too complicated and elaborate. Here are some of the Snap’s best features.
On The Onset
The HTC Touch measures 4.59 x 2.42 x 0.47 inches and weighs 120 grams. In terms of the display screen, the Touch has a 2.4-inch QVGA display screen that has a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels. Although this may not be cutting edge, this display screen is good enough and should be able to display decent graphics. You can also snap away with the Smartphone’s 2-Megapixel camera and share these photos with your family and friends via the Touch’s Bluetooth technology. Accessing the internet on this handset is also possible as it has Wi-Fi capabilities.
One of the HTC Snap’s best features is its QWERY keypad. Other soon to be released models of HTC, such as the HTC Touch Pro2 and the HTC Touch Diamond2 will be sporting touch screen technologies. However, the Snap opts for a more functional QWERTY keypad that will make it easier to type text messages and Emails.
Wait, there’s more!
The HTC Snap runs on Microsoft’s Windows Mobile version 6.1 and is powered by Qualcomm’s 528MHz MSM7225 processor. It also has a solid battery life that will allow almost 9 hours of talk time and more than 15 days of stand-by time. Not too bad for a mid-priced Smartphone that is reportedly going to have a launch price of around £250 once it is released in May.
