Christmas is in the air, even for mobile phones. The old BL40 Chocolate from LG gets a neat little upgrade in the form of a high resolution 8 mega pixel camera.
Yep, you heard that right. Not the BL20, but the BL40. Despite no longer being the item of choice for many people, this bulky little Chocolate still manages to show that vanity counts even when faced with practicality.
Other devices such as the HTC HD2 and the Motorola DROID offer excellent features (Snapdragon on the HD2 and Éclair on the DROID), and are also impeccably styled. They are sleek futuristic looking devices, but hands down, the BL40 Chocolate is far more sexier than these two devices (and the BL20 is even sexier, but that’s a different topic).
The Christmas Edition of the BL40 (that really is what they call it) will be released in Korea starting on December 10. No word has been given on whether this version of the Chocolate will ever reach UK shores, but who knows? It might see a Valentine’s Edition (well, or maybe not).
Aside from the new camera, nothing else is new with this Xmas-Edition phone. The rest of the BL40’s specs remain the same. That means users can expect 1 GB of internal storage for all media and files. The 4 inch capacitive touch screen is still present, as well as the S-Class interface.
For media, the device supports MP3, WAV and eAAC+ music files and MP4, DivX, XviD and H.263 video formats. It also has an FM radio function and of course, a 3.5mm audio jack.
The phone also gets to retain the sleek form and size; at 128 x 51 x 10.9mm it truly remains as one of the thinner and sexier devices available. Tough many would argue that this phone is far out-classed by the more basic BL20.

The Chocolate BL40 Gets an 8MP Camera
Wednesday, November 25th, 2009LG Chocolate BL40 Now On O2 and Orange
Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009
The highly sought after, media friendly LG Chocolate BL40 has just been made available on both the O2 and Orange networks in the UK. The handset itself will be free of charge provided users sign up for a £30 per month plan.
The mobile phone itself is remarkably thin and boasts a huge 4 inch widescreen (touch) display; holding the LG Chocolate BL40 actually feels rather like holding a bar of chocolate – and the handset is now available across the UK with two new carriers – both major.
If you don’t want to get stuck on a £30 a month contract there will also be the option of £15 a month through the mobiles.co.uk site, although if you choose to go with one of the discount monthly plans you will be paying top dollar for the mobile phone itself, up to £220, in fact. As we mentioned before though, you can always pick the very reasonably priced £30 a month contract, (for 24 months,) and get the handset for nothing, which will save you money in the long run.
The LG BL40 Chocolate, like all the mobile phones in LG’s Black Label series, is more than worth committing to a plan for, with it’s beautifully large, (and wide,) screen, which is covered in scratch proof glass, a 5 megapixel camera, as well as built in GPS navigation, Wi Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.
A high end handset with a lower end price tag produced by LG, a well liked and very respected company, the LG Chocolate BL40 has a whole lot of hype surrounding it already, and it’s still early days yet.
The Fashion Mobile: LG BL40 Chocolate
Saturday, September 19th, 2009
Gone are the days when mobile phones were merely devices used for calling and texting. Nowadays, certain prerequisite features have to be built-in on the device in order for it to be considered as a major player. Especially for Smartphones that target the upper market segments, there simply isn’t any room for subtlety and discreetness; the demands of today’s market crave for mobiles that are flamboyant and feature-packed.
One mobile phone that surely fits the bill is the new LG BL40 Chocolate. With its long list of impressive features and revolutionary functions, this sleek and slim Smartphone is truly as tempting as a delectable, calorie-filled chocolate bar.
Chocolate Fever
We’ve long been waiting for a follow-up to the considerable success amassed by the set of Chocolate line of mobile phones a few years back. The KU800, KE800, and KG800 were all part of this esteemed family of heavenly sweets and they all shared the same slider form factor. Now, with the BL40 Chocolate, LG has taken a different approach by giving it a candy bar form factor. It still has that black and shiny design that has made the line so popular, but this time around, it comes complete with a very impressive touch screen display.
The Screen
We wouldn’t do the LG Black Label 40 Chocolate justice if we weren’t to touch on the device’s extremely impressive screen. With an aspect ratio of 21:9 and a resolution of 800 x 345 pixels, it truly has the prowess to fulfill the high expectations set by its massive 4-inch touch screen display.
The auto-rotate function on the device allows users to view the display in panoramic mode. Widescreen HD videos can also be watched on the BL40 Chocolate as its “True VGA” resolution guarantees the crispiest and the most life-like image and video outputs possible.

Screening the LG BL40 Chocolate
Friday, September 11th, 2009
The new LG BL40 Chocolate is a very impressive and interesting mobile from the manufacturer’s Black Label Chocolate series. The fact that it is equipped with a myriad of appealing features – none more striking than its extremely sizable 4.0-inch touch screen display – makes it one of the most promising mobile phones to ever come out of LG’s kitchen.
The Main Attraction
Although the BL40 Chocolate does have quite a unique sleek and slim design, there is no doubt that the mobile’s main attraction still has to be its humongous screen. This addition makes the device truly distinct as we don’t think we’ve seen a screen of this magnitude anywhere else. What makes the touch screen display more exceptional is that it’s a bit narrow compared to other Smartphones that share the same candy bar form factor.
What it lacks in width, it makes up for in length (pun intended). Once the accelerometer censor is activated, the screen will automatically rotate sideways to allow users to view the screen in landscape mode. This is where the beauty of the display is optimized as it gives off a sort of wide-screen effect.
However, LG knew that size is not the only factor that determines an excellent screen. Combining a 345 x 800-pixel resolution and a cinema aspect ratio of 21:9, this amazingly oversized screen is able to display high resolution outputs like no other in the market today.
Rounding Up the List
That’s not all she wrote for the LG BL40 Chocolate. Also on board the device are a 5-Megapixel camera, full data connectivity options (3G, Wi-Fi, EDGE, GPRS, etc.), a GPS receiver, an FM radio, a multi-format multimedia player, as well as a host of handy pre-installed applications.
Once it is released later this year, the BL40 Chocolate will surely be a hit for critics and consumers alike.

LG BL40 Chocolate: Bigger is Better
Tuesday, September 8th, 2009
LG has recently confirmed the latest addition to the highly popular Chocolate line – the LG BL40 Chocolate. LG didn’t provide too much information regarding its full list of specifications; only that we should expect more details come late August. Their mysterious approach has worked wonders for them as the buzz surrounding this device continues to grow. Here’s what we have so far on the LG Black Label 40 Chocolate.
Are You 4 Real?
One thing we are sure of is that the newest member of the Chocolate family will be sporting a revolutionary 4-inch screen. This is one of, if not the biggest screens we’ve ever seen on a mobile phone and surely, the BL40 Chocolate intends to put it to good use.
One of the best features of this touch screen display is its 21:9 cinema aspect ratio. Combined with its 800 x 345-pixel resolution, you can be sure to expect video outputs of the highest quality on the BL40 Chocolate. This will be equipped with a scratch-resistant glass cover to ensure a long-lasting display screen.
Multitask Away
The LG BL40 Chocolate’s dual-content interface will let users simultaneously view multiple pieces of content on the device’s impressive screen. This means that multitasking will be a breeze on the device. Tinker with the settings of the BL40 Chocolate’s 5-Megapixel snapper or browse the internet at high speeds using the mobile’s 7.2 Mbps HSDPA 3G connection.
Design-wise the LG BL40 Chocolate has a very slim and sleek look; some have even dubbed it as the premier fashion mobile of this year. The whole front surface is dominated by the oversized screen and there seems to be no buttons present to accompany it. The sexy and shiny feel to the device definitely exudes a different kind of swagger for the fashion-conscious user.

LG BL40 Chocolate gets release date
Monday, September 7th, 2009
LG has announced that its long awaited widescreen BL40 Chocolate will be released worldwide in October. However, the phone, which is the fourth in LG’s illustrious black label range, will be released later this month across Europe and will be available in the UK from Carphone Warehouse and Orange.
The BL40 has been attracting attention for some time due to its super wide 4” screen which comes with a 21:9 ratio. The touch sensitive screen also has a very high resolution of 800 x 345 that will make it ideal for viewing webpage’s and widescreen movies. The touch sensitivity will be provided by capacitive technology meaning that the BL40 will be capable of multitouch and the Dual Screen UI will allow users to split the screen in two between separate tasks or applications.
With its highly detailed display and spacious screen the BL40 Chocolate is ideal for entertainment purposes and it has the specifications to match. The media player supports a large range of formats and there is a 3.5mm headphone socket included. The 5 megapixel camera comes with Schneider-Kreuznach optics, LED flash and geo-tagging so the BL40’s photographic capabilities are as high quality as its entertainment features.
With an upgraded S-Class interface the Chocolate makes use of finger friendly 3D graphics. The BL40 Chocolate will also come with an accelerometer and allow gesture controls. While the rest of the world will have to wait until October the BL40 will be released in Europe this month, and the UK will be lucky enough to get hold of the highly anticipated phone before everyone.
