New Information about the LG GW620

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

LG GW620Despite the nearing of its launch, the GW620’s intimate details are still being kept from public scrutiny. Regardless, expect many people to start tearing into this new Android smart phone the moment it hits the displays. For quite some time now, the mobile phone industry has come to expect a lot from Android smart phones. With each model proving more impressive than the last, Android phone makers are pressured to push the limits with each new model. This time, LG has decided to give the Android phone a go. With over a dozen smart phones running Windows Mobile it is a good sign that LG is actually willing to try something new. Hopefully, for their first try, they get it right.

Initial Impressions on the GW620

LG may be new with the Android, but they have been in the mobile phone industry for quite some time. Expect the GW620 to be a well rounded machine at the very least. The currently known facts about this little Android show that LG is moving in the right direction. The GW620 is a quad band phone and can support different network options; a must for mobile phones. Network access is what gives smart phones a higher degree of functionality; with the LG GW620 you get WiFi, GPRS, HSDPA, and EDGE to choose from. Browsing should be easy since the Android supports a lot of good browsers such as Opera Mobile and you will have the convenience of a fully keyboard and a touch screen literally at your fingertips.

LG Takes on the Android

Having made a lot of mobile phones that use the Windows Mobile operating system, the GW620 is a nice break for LG. In fact, more than a break, most might even call it a leap forward in terms of mobile phone direction.

LG GW620 Stirs Up the Hornet’s Nest

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

LG GW620With a lot of major mobile phones about to be released late this year, LG is setting up to draw first blood with their new Android smart phone. Finally, after what seems to be hundreds of Windows Mobile based devices (actually, just over a dozen, but you get the point), LG is finally giving Android fans something that will divert their holiday funds. LG is known for making good decisions when it comes to mobile phone design. While they might not always have the most powerful hardware or the most uniquely innovative software and applications, they do have a penchant for creating aesthetically superior mobile phones. From the early screenshots of the LG GW620, this is going to be one sexy Android.

Looks Like an Android

The GW620 is hot. The matte finish makes a superb contrast to the glossy smooth touch screen. When you extend the slide out full QWERTY keyboard (every smart phone has to have one), the light blue hue of the keys play visual wonders to your eyes. The use of space, lines and contours are exquisitely made. Particularly with the edges of the mobile phone, from the soft rounded corners to the slight bend near the sides, this phone is stylishly detailed. The GW620 is simple looking phone with all the right external makings, and that, in the end is what makes it look so good.

Press Release Information

LG has been pretty quiet with the GW620. But at least they are letting people know some of the hardware specs for this little Android. The GW620 will be a quad-band device supporting both 2G and 3G technology. Network options include wireless LAN (WiFi), GPRS, HSDPA and EDGE. You will also get an FM radio, A-GPS support, a five mega pixel camera, and media playback capabilities.

The Android LG GW620 is Looking Good

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

LG GW620LG is really bringing out the big guns this year with its new line of smart phones. The mobile industry has been enjoying the recent releases from major manufacturers such as Sony Ericsson, T-Mobile, Samsung and others. It makes sense that LG has been a busy bee as well. Their latest offering is a series of smart phones that targets different markets in order to penetrate the smart phone crowd. For the hard core android users, they have created the GW620. This android smart phone has been lurking quietly in the shadows while LG’s other Windows Mobile based devices have been stealing the spotlight. But as the day of its release date grows closer, the GW620 is gathering some serious steam.

Promising Looks

This mobile phone looks good, really good. The slide out keyboard, dark gray matte finish, even the layout of the face buttons and nub all add to the charm and beauty of this device. When closed, the GW620 is serious little machine accentuated with soft rounded edges. The almost black color gives it a hint of sophistication and refinement in style. Sliding out the full QWERTY keypad on the side, you get to appreciate the wide button layout and the slight bluish hue. Externally, this mobile phone is a real beauty. The jacks and buttons on the edges are all located strategically allowing you to easily grasp and use this mobile phone with one hand.

Initial Specifications

Despite being a new model, there are already a lot of expectations from the LG GW620. This is, after all, an Android phone; and the Android is an excellent operating system that should not be wasted on just any phone. For now, LG is promising users with the standard range of specs. A-GPS support is present, so expect some navigation apps available. Media playback is also a given, time will tell what file types are supported. It has WiFi, GPRS, HSDPA, and EDGE connectivity, quad band support and of course, expandable memory.

The LG Android Mobile Phone is Coming!

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

AndroidBack in February this year, Korean phone manufacturer LG promised to the GSMA Mobile World Congress that it would continue its commitment to Windows Mobile being used on all of its upcoming handsets. However, as Best Mobile Contracts Blog has revealed, this is not the case.

LG has released some details regarding its upcoming release of the GW620, a mobile phone handset powered by Google Android. Despite being the third largest manufacturer of mobile phones in the world today, this will be the first LG launched to date to be powered by Android.

We know for sure it will be out in the fourth quarter of the year, and all signs point to October as the month it becomes available on shop shelves, however as this is also when the Motorola DEXT is speculated to come out, so there will be some stiff competitions on both sides; although LG will likely come out on top in this scenario, as it holds higher target audience popularity currently than Motorola enjoys.

LG GW620The LG GW620 is aimed at a younger market, both young professionals who want a funky looking phone with email options, as well as teenagers who are keen on the social networking functionality and push button publishing of status updates to Facebook and Twitter the mobile phone has to offer. (There is also a nifty little feature letting upload your pictures straight to Flickr, as well as the afore mentioned social networking sites, and MySpace.)

2010 is going to be a big year for LG, who are looking to prove they are still primarily a Windows Mobile company by releasing a total of 13 handsets running the mobile OS throughout the coming 12 months.

New Android Phone from LG

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

LG GW620Spotted at the IFA in Germany earlier this month under the name ‘Etna’, the GW620 is a new touchscreen handset from LG which will be the first phone from the Korean manufacturer to make use of Google Android. This will not mark a permanent switch in LG’s preferred choice of OS however, as they have also stated that they are firmly committed to Windows Mobile and have 3 WinMo devices up for unveiling in the next few weeks.

The GW620 will be aimed at ‘young professionals’ with an emphasis on internet services such as email and social networking. To suit this aim the GW620 will feature a full slide-out QWERTY keypad which will help with punching out emails or updating statuses. This will also be greatly benefitted by the 3″ touch sensitive screen which will be used for onscreen typing as an alternative no doubt. The GW620 is also rumoured to come with a 5 megapixel camera and possibly LG’s S-Class UI atop of Android.

The GW620 will be the first Android phone from LG and one of the few not to be released by rival Asian firm HTC. With a scheduled release date for Q4 2009 the GW620 will be up against the DEXT which will be the first Android phone released from another rival firm, Motorola. Sony Ericsson is also jumping on the bandwagon with the upcoming release of the Xperia X3.

With 13 Windows Mobile phones up for release during the next year the GW620 does not mark a change in direction for LG in terms of their choice of OS. But with WinMo 6.5 receiving a lukewarm reception and people complaining that Microsoft still doesn’t understand the needs of phone users, the potential success of the GW620 could persuade LG to jump ship at some point in the future.
