The winner of the best camera phone at the Mobile Choice Awards this year is the Samsung Pixon 12.
Throughout this year, 8 mega pixel cameras in mobile phones have largely become the norm, and high end manufacturers are now competing against each other with bigger and better 12 mega pixel devices. The short list of camera phones boast as many mega pixels in some cases as professional quality SLR cameras, so they were compared in the fields of speed and how well they handle. A guest judge, professional photographer Stefan Klenke, even compared the mobile phones against dedicated cameras – and still Samsung‘s Pixon 12 was the clear winner.
The Samsung Pixon 12, which was the world’s first 12 mega pixel camera within a mobile phone, won not only because it has more mega pixels than were previously thought possible, but also because overall it was the best complete handset when it came to taking photographs.
The Samsung Pixon 12 has a good feed to its camera, as well as good, strong, action, macro and flash capabilities – it is the perfect mobile phone for people who are often out and about and find themselves wishing they had a camera on them; it’s quality is easily good enough that you can snap the sunset, or just take a picture with your friends face book; we would even trust it to take photographs at an important event, like Christmas with the family, or a friend’s wedding.
This impressive model does make us wonder; will we eventually see the day when cameras and mobile phones are no longer available as two different things? It might sound far fetched, but once they manage to cram a 24 mega pixel camera into a handset, well, we wont be carrying our cameras around any more.

Organising and managing your images has never been easier on the Pixon 12. You can sort your photos in different ways: by file name, rating, tags and time. Multiple selection is a handy application as you get to extract images by group to view or edit them. This beats having to look at images one by one. Because of these features alone, I may have to give up on my previous Samsung favourite, the Omnia. I wonder how the Sony Ericsson Satio will do when pitted against the Pixon 12?
