Samsung Tocco Lite’s Whiz of an Interface

Samsung-S5230-and-Samsung-S5600

The highlight of the Samsung Tocco Lite (S5230) is no doubt its user interface. TouchWiz, as Samsung calls it, is indeed a work of genius especially now that it has been improved to enable the use of widgets. Mobile users can place these useful, little applications on the screen by dragging them from the left side of the phone where they are normally stored. The homescreen is also scrollable from the side so that you get three homescreen options instead of just one. You can decorate and customise each screen differently from each other.

Tocco-LiteAnother admirable interface feature is the Gesture Lock technology. Samsung opted to outfit the Tocco Lite with a resistive touchscreen so you can use a stylus to navigate the display. With Gesture Lock, you can designate a letter to an application then use that letter to simultaneously open both the screen and the application. All you have to do is draw the designated letter on the screen.

You might find the finger-accessible gallery of this phone clever as when you view pictures, you sweep through the album without referring back to the photo list. Sweeping your finger across the screen is effortless even with the resistive nature of the display, so it can be quite fun. The phone also lets you view pictures in landscape mode.

The Tocco Lite also has a 3 megapixel camera that’s equipped with the smile shot. With this feature, the phone doesn’t take a shot until it has detected a smile from the subject – even after you have pressed the button.

The dimensions of the Tocco Lite are similar to the S5600 with the former being slightly thicker. The front of the phone is very attractively designed and closely resembles that of the Samsung i900 Omnia that at first you’d think they were the same phone. The release of the Samsung Tocco Lite is scheduled for May with no definite word yet as to pricing.

Samsung-S5230

The new touchscreen phone from Samsung promises to bring to the consumer market some of the perks that are enjoyed on a high end mobile device.   The Samsung S5230 is a full-featured phone with a mid-range price.

The highlight of this phone, which is also called the Samsung Tocco Lite, is its enhanced user interface that allows for widgets. Also, users can customise not one, not two, but three homescreens because the display is scrollable. The phone has three options for inputting text: by way of a stylus (the unit is equipped with handwriting recognition), a QWERTY keyboard that is accessible in landscape mode and an alpha-numeric keypad.

Samsung-S5230-and-Samsung-S5600The music player is also impressive as it is incorporated with a DNSe sound chip so you get good quality audio. You can create your playlists and the phone automatically creates one for the most frequently played tracks. Songs are organized by album, artist name and genre. Alternatively, you can listen to music through the phone’s FM radio.

There is a 3.2 megapixel camera which takes pretty decent images as it has autofocus plus the smile detection feature. The phone has a photo contact feature where you can scroll through an arc of pictures when choosing who to call. The S5230’s connectivity options include EDGE, GPRS and Bluetooth so Internet browsing is satisfactory. Memory capacity is 50MB but it can be expandable to 8 gigabytes through the use of a microSD card. The S5230 measures 104 x 53 x 11.9 millimeters and weighs 92 grams. The display screen is 3 inches in size and has a 240 x 300 pixel resolution. If you notice, the design of the display is quite similar to that of the Omnia.

The S5230 is seen as a worthy challenger to LG’s Cookie and Samsung plans to release this device this May. There is no official announcement regarding prices but it will probably be somewhere around £160.

The Samsung Tocco Lite: A Full Touchscreen Phone that’s Easy on the Budget

Tocco-Lite

It seems that Samsung comes out with a different model phone each month. Not that gadget freaks are complaining, Samsung is responsible for some of the most innovative mobile devices in the industry. This new product is no different. The Samsung Tocco Lite S5230, also known as the Samsung Tocco Lite, is a full touchscreen phone that the company is marketing to middle to low range consumers.

Although there isn’t any information yet as to how much the device will cost, prices are expected to be somewhere around £160 – around the same range as the LG Cookie, which is considered as a direct competitor of the Tocco Lite.

Samsung-S5230The friendly price isn’t the only thing that is appealing about this phone. Whilst the price is mid-range, Samsung certainly didn’t hold back on the features that they put into this phone. The Samsung Tocco Lite utilizes the TouchWiz UI which enables users to make use of widgets to personalize the homescreen.

Another ingenious feature is that the homescreen is scrollable so that you get three standby screens. Each screen can be personalized differently and independently of each other. The Tocco Lite also features Gesture Lock technology where you only have to draw a single letter on the screen to unlock the phone and at the same time open a pre-determined application that you have assigned to that letter.

The Samsung Tocco Lite doesn’t have 3G connectivity but you get a respectable Internet connectivity through Bluetooth, GPRS and EDGE. The unit has a 3MP camera with autofocus and Smile Shot technology. Smile Shot is a clever feature as the phone only captures the picture once the person being photographed is smiling. Video recording is also possible with this camera.

Samsung has also released another mid-range touchscreen phone along with the Tocco Lite, the Samsung S5600. They look very similar except the S5600 is equipped with 3G. The Tocco Lite is expected to hit the market around May this year.

Samsung Tocco Lite, A Sure Best-Seller

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009
Tocco-LiteThere are a lot of things going for the Samsung S5230, also dubbed Samsung Tocco Lite. It is a mobile phone abounding with fun, innovative and useful features – there is the enhanced user interface, inventive technology, sophisticated design. There are a lot of indications that this phone will be one of Samsung’s best selling devices. The best thing about it is, it’s a mid-range mobile geared to the mass market!

The Samsung Tocco Lite boasts of the improved TouchWiz user interface. For starters, users are now able to use widgets to tailor the look of the homescreen to their liking. Even more exciting is the fact that there isn’t just a single homescreen to customise. There are three standby “desktops” that you can work with.

There are three ways in which you can write a message on the Tocco Lite. First, you can use a stylus to write on the screen. The phone is equipped with handwriting recognition and it is quite accurate at identifying letters. You can also input messages via the onscreen QWERTY keyboard which you can access in landscape mode. The third messaging option is the virtual keypad.

The music player of the Tocco Lite is also a marvel and it is the same one that you’d find on the Samsung M8800 Pixon and the S5600. You can manage your music efficiently by author, album and genre. The phone automatically creates playlists which it generates from the songs most played or the ones recently listened to. You can also create your own customised playlist. The music player has a widget dedicated to it so access is quick and easy.

This is just the tip of the iceberg; there are a lot of other features that we haven’t covered. Never fear, though, for this device is scheduled to be released this May. Just a little more time and you can go check out the Tocco Lite yourself.
