Orange is set to launch a new Welsh language phone from Samsung that will feature over 44,000 Welsh words. The move comes as recognition that many people in Wales only speak English as a second language and up until now have had to make do with English language phones. The new move will allow the UI to be displayed in Welsh and also allow the use of predictive Welsh messaging.
The announced handset will be the Samsung S5600 that is already on sale in the UK in English. The phone has already been very successful since its launch. The move comes from Samsung who back in 2008 were also the first company to offer an Irish language phone. Hiring specially trained translators Samsung released a version of the popular Tocco Lite with a dictionary of 44,000 Irish words. The success of that move saw Samsung promising to try and release many key launches with the Irish language as an option.
The Welsh language phone is a one off at the moment, but if it proves as successful as the Irish language phone it could see Samsung offering this as an option for most of their main releases. The inclusion of the language also accounts for variations between Northern and Southern dialects.
The Samsung S5600 is a midrange touchscreen featuring a sharp and colourful 2.8” display. The innovative TouchWiz interface it employs can also allow some great applications in combination with the device’s accelerometer. There is also a 3 megapixel camera and a built-in GPS receiver.
Although this is the only phone announced by Samsung so far to feature the Welsh language, if the Irish language move is anything to go by it could see this as being an option on many of Samsung’s key releases in the future. The Welsh language Samsung S5600 will be available on Orange through pay as you go and contract.

Friday, July 24th, 2009
Samsung recently launched two of its recent additions to their touchscreen phone line-up that are set to be pitted against the LG Cookie. One of the devices is the Samsung S5600 and whilst the mobile phone is being marketed as a mid-range unit, it does pack some features that you can consider high-end.
Samsung incorporated the same user interface on the S5600 that they put on the S8300 only this UI has certain improvements on it. TouchWiz, as it is referred to, enables S5600 users to make use of widgets – mini applications that you can place on the homescreen to personalise the look of your phone. It also comes with a feature called the Screen Gesture Lock which allows for synchronized phone unlock and application opening. All you have to do is assign a letter to an application and when you draw that letter on the screen, it opens the phone and the application that you want to access. Samsung will release the S5600 this May and though there isn’t any official information on pricing, the handset will probably be in the £160 to £200 range.

The Samsung S5600 Preston: Cool Looks, Solid Features
Sunday, July 12th, 2009
The Samsung S5600 is a stylish, compact touchscreen phone that is the most recent addition to the Samsung line-up. It sports a 2.8 inch display and measures 102.8 x 54.8 x 12.9 millimeters. It tips the scales at a light 92 grams so it won’t be a chore carrying it around in your pocket. The s5600 is currently available only in black but there is no shortage of style on this phone – it is after all, a Samsung device. Underneath the screen you will find touch-sensitive buttons and a navigation pad in the middle.
Apart from the quiet sophistication that this mobile phone projects, it also boasts of impressive features that are quite difficult to find on similar mid-range phones. The S5600 has fully backed connectivity with 3G-HSDPA, EDGE, GPRS and Bluetooth. Internet connection is more than satisfactory on this phone plus it supports HTML, XHTML and WAP. Other superior features include an integrated GPS and A-GPS support as well as what Samsung refers to as Gesture Lock. The Gesture Lock features enables simultaneous unlocking and menu access by way of a pre-assigned letter that you draw on the screen.
The Samsung S5600 runs on the TouchWiz interface (also seen on other Samsung models, the Tocco Ultra and BeatDJ), which accounts for the use of widgets. You can personalise your homescreen by placing these mini applications on the display. The s5600 is scheduled for release this May.

The Samsung S5600: Putting the LG Cookie Out of Commission
Tuesday, July 7th, 2009
There are many reasons why the Samsung S5600 and the LG Cookie are being compared. Design looks, for one thing, are quite similar on both phones. They both sport a touchscreen interface and are geared towards the mid-range market. However, the LG Cookie seems to fall short on a few important features that the Samsung S5600 adequately addresses.
Unlike the LG Cookie, the Samsung S5600 Preston is 3G enabled so on connectivity alone, the S5600 already leads by a mile. Additionally, the camera of the S5600 can capture videos at 15 frames per second while the LG Cookie records at 12 frames per second. The camera on the LG Cookie has no autofocus and flash so it is safe to say the quality of images captured won’t measure up to S5600 standards. The Samsung S5600 is available in the market in May although there still isn’t any reliable information on pricing.

Get Good Value for Money with the Samsung S5600
Tuesday, May 19th, 2009
The economy seems to show no signs of picking up so people are trying to live as frugally as they can and reserve any extra cash for only the most necessary items. Mobile phones are considered a necessity but when you’re in a crunch, it can be difficult to find a device that will suitably fill your needs. The good news is that there is such a phone in the form of the Samsung S5600, which was recently introduced along with its sibling, the Samsung Tocco Lite.
The great thing about the S5600 is that it packs a lot of premium features in an affordably-priced compact phone. The Samsung S5600 has full 3G connectivity which allows for up to 7.2Mbps browsing speeds. Another premium feature is Samsung’s proprietary TouchWiz interface that allows S5600 users to make use of widgets to customise the homescreen. The widgets are accessible through the side navigation bar and you simply drag a widget from the bar onto the screen. Samsung designed the look of this phone simply with its display and shape reminiscent of the HTC Touch. But this simplicity actually adds to the appeal of the phone. The release schedule of the phone is this May and pricing will probably be at less than £200.
