T-Mobile has just announced that they are to launch yet another Android phone. Unlike their two previous releases which were developed by HTC this new phone, known as the T-Mobile Pulse, will come from Chinese phone company Huawei. The Huawei 8220, as it is otherwise known, was revealed earlier this year at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona where spectators were suggesting even then that the company was planning to team up with T-Mobile.
The Pulse will see the addition of Wi-Fi support to the Huawei 8220, as well as coming with HSDPA and Bluetooth. The Pulse will also be noticeable for having the largest screen yet released on an Android phone measuring at 3.5”. The TFT screen will be touch sensitive and have a resolution of 320 x 480 and come with over 16 million colours so it should be a very high quality display. The interface used by Huawei will follow in the footsteps of the one used by HTC by employing six homescreens which can be easily switched between.
The camera included on the Pulse seems pretty basic by today’s standards at 3.2 megapixels and no flash, although it will come with autofocus. The Pulse will also be the first Android phone to feature both Media Center and MyCommunity. The Media Center will allow the download of personalised media content and MyCommunity will allow you to easily keep track of your contacts.
The on board memory is quite small at just 256MB although this will be upgradable with microSD and 2GB microSD will be included in the standard package. Internet access will be available on the Pay As You Go phone for as little as £5 a month or on a one off basis you can connect for £1 a day. The Pulse will come as good news for people looking for an Android phone but not liking the prospect of signing up to a contract and it should be available on T-Mobile in October for just £180.
